The controversy surrounding Marcus Fitzgerald, the younger brother of Arizona Cardinals star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, has officially hit “volcanic” proportions.

Google searches for Marcus Fitzgerald are the top search item right now, Google Trends reports. Google lists the level of search activity as “volcanic.”

Marcus Fitzgerald unknowingly touched off a media firestorm last weekend by tweeting that Fitzgerald wasn’t happy with the number of looks he was getting from Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner.

Marcus Fitzgerald has since apologized and taken down the tweets from his account, but the controversy rages on.

The interest in the Marcus Fitzgerald saga was heightened tonight when Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth discussed the situation on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, which is pitting the Indianapolis Colts against the Cardinals.

And for the record, through the first half, it must be said that Marcus Fitzgerald had a point — his brother Larry really isn’t getting the ball that much.
