New York Jets wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery missed his second consecutive practice on Saturday with a hamstring injury. Head coach Rex Ryan wasn’t made available to the media on Saturday, but on Friday he that Cotchery is in real danger of missing Monday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins. He is listed as questionable on the injury report. According to the New York Daily News, If Cotchery can’t play, Brad Smith probably would start opposite newly-acquired Braylon Edwards. David Clowney and Wallace Wright would be available off the bench. Cotchery leads the Jets with 23 catches for 356 yards and he is developing quite a rapport with quarterback Mark Sanchez.
Fantasy Analysis:
The Jets weren’t planning for this when they finished the deal for Edwards on Wednesday. He was supposed to bolster am already decent receiving corps. Now Edwards is a necessity. If Cotchery misses the game against the Dolphins — a match-up that he can certainly exploit — Edwards will be expected to produce right away, even though he is probably not very familiar with the Jets’ offense. Cotchery’s absence would also be a pretty big blow to Sanchez’s value for this week. On the other hand, no Cotchery would probably mean more targets for tight end Dustin Keller, and Miami is one of the worst teams in the league at guarding the TE.
