To coincide with Thanksgiving, Harper`s Magazine presents a reading with its contributors on the theme of “the Family Table”-eating, fighting, anguish, and the American form of gratitude. Featuring selections from the magazine and work by the writers Rivka Galchen, author of Atmospheric Disturbances, Ben Marcus, author of Notable American Women, and David Samuels, Harper`s Contributing Editor and author of Only Love Can Break Your Heart.

WHEN: Wednesday, November 11 at 7:00 P.M.

WHERE: Housing Works Bookstore Café, 126 Crosby Street, New York City and also streamed live at Livestream.com/harpersmagazine.

WHO: Rivka Galchen is the author of Atmospheric Disturbances, a novel. Her essays and stories have appeared in Harper’s Magazine, Zoetrope, The New Yorker, The Believer, Scientific American, and the New York Times.

Ben Marcus is the author of Notable American Women, The Father Costume, and The Age of Wire and String. His stories and essays have appeared in Harper’s Magazine, The Paris Review, the New York Times, Tin House, and elsewhere.

David Samuels is a Contributing Editor of Harper’s Magazine and a frequent contributor to The New Yorker. Last year, Samuels published two books: a collection titled Only Love Can Break Your Heart and the nonfiction novella The Runner: A True Account of the Amazing Lies and Fantastical Adventures of the Ivy
League Impostor James Hogue.

Additional selections will be read by the staff of Harper’s Magazine.

One hundred percent of the bookstore’s profits go to Housing Works, Inc., an organization committed to ending AIDS and homelessness.
